Dogtanian's parents

Dogtanian's father was in the army, fighting alongside Treville. He trains his with the sword, and almost loses in a fight, and sends him to join the Musketeers.

Dogtanian's mother is concerned about Dogtanian's fights with François and doesn't want him to go to Paris. She gives him a balm the heals any wound for his journey.

Duke of Buckingham

The Prime Minister of England the Duke is very good 'friends' with Queen Anne. He helps Dogtanian and Pip catch Milady after he inadvertently gives her the Queen's diamond studs.

In real life Buckingham (George Villiers, 1st Duke of Buckingham) was not the Prime Minister as there wasn't one until the 1700s. He was assassinated in 1628 after failing to help the Huguenots at the Siege of La Rochelle (against the French forces commanded by Cardinal Richelieu).

Queen Anne

Queen Anne is the Monarch actually running the country, trying to stop Richelieu from taking over and stop a war with England. She meets with Buckingham on a regular basis a fact Richelieu tries to use to discredit her.

Anne of Austria was part of the Habsburg Family which ruled (at various times) Austria, Hungary, Spain (Anne's place of birth), Bohemia and the Holy Roman Empire. After an unhappy marriage to Louis XIII she ruled France for 8 years before Louis XIV came of age. With Cardinal Mazarin, Richelieu's successor and her alleged lover, as Chief Minister.

King Louis XIII

Louis is the weak, and generally rubbish, King of France. Although most of his policies are decided by Richelieu he does occasionally think for himself (like keeping the Musketeers as his personal guard after Dogtanian beats the Cardinals Guards).

Louis was a part of the Bourbon dynasty at a time of increasing power for France in Europe, and of the monarchy in France. This was nearly entirely down to Richelieu running the country.

Planchet

Planchet worked at the inn in Meune where Dogtanian stayed before going to Paris. He went to Paris, along with Sandy, after the Inn closed down and became Dogtanians loyal servant.

Sandy

Dogtanian's horse, not the fastest, youngest or best looking horse but loyal to Dogtanian and smart enough to see Juliette's signal in Juliette Kidnapped. Sandy is the only horse in the world who can track with his sense of smell.

Marco

A young mouse arrested to impersonating the Cardinal, he works for him to trap the Three Musketeers and Dogtanian before realising the error of his ways and helping to free them.

The Bird

An unnamed bird Pip befriends in Dogtanian is Put to the Test who helps Pip in his plans to make Dogtanian a musketeer.
